No Justice For Terence Crutcher, Who Was Essentially Murdered For Having a Bad Engine In His Car

Last week, the world received confirmation that Terence Crutcher will never receive justice. Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby, who was acquitted last week of first-degree manslaughter, is back on the job and will receive more than $35,000 in back pay.

On September 16, 2016, Terence Crutcher, a 40-year-old black man, was murdered by white Tulsa Oklahoma police officer, Betty Shelby. Around 7:30pm that evening, police received multiple calls about an abandoned car in the middle of the street (36th Street North just west of Lewis Avenue).

The callers complained about the following in regards to Crutcher & his Vehicle:

  • “Somebody left their vehicle running in the middle of the street with the doors wide open.”
  • “The doors are open. The vehicle is still running. It’s an SUV. It’s like in the middle of the street. It’s blocking traffic.”
  • There was a guy running from it, saying it was going to blow up. But I think he’s smoking something. I got out and was like, ‘Do you need help?'” “He was like, ‘Come here, come here, I think it’s going to blow up.’”
  • “There is a car that looks like somebody just jumped out of it and left it in the center of the road on 36th Street North and North Lewis Avenue.”
  • “There is a car that looks like somebody just jumped out of it and left it in the center of the road on 36th Street North and North Lewis Avenue.”

Terence Crutcher was having car troubles and needed help. Police arrived on the scene to check on the situation. “As they approached the vehicle a black male started towards them,” Tulsa Police spokesperson Jeanne Mackenzie told KOTV.

“They asked him to show his hands. He refused to follow commands given by the officers. They continued to talk to him. He continued not to listen, not follow any commands as they got closer to the vehicle he reached inside the vehicle and at that time there was a Taser deployment and then a short time later there was one shot fired.” It was later revealed that Crutcher was high on PCP and disoriented, still not a reason to murder him.

Crutcher needed drug rehab, not a funeral.

Video evidence shows that Crutcher had his hands up and his car window was rolled up (indicated by his blood trailing down the window). Additionally, no weapon was found on Crutcher or inside his vehicle.

The racist American media immediately brought up Terence Crutcher’s criminal history, as if that had anything to do with the shooting. They often use the criminal history of unarmed blacks that are murdered to make it seem like they deserved to be killed off.

Crutcher, 40, died after Shelby fired a single shot that struck him in the upper right chest.

After a jury deliberated for nine hours, Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby was acquitted in the September 2016 death of Terence Crutcher. Here were some of her defense positions:

  • Betty Shelby claimed that Crutcher was “zombie-like” and unresponsive to her questions (despite the fact that he had his hands up before the shooting)
  • Shelby later said that she thought Crutcher might have been on drugs and was reaching for a weapon in the car, which prompted her to shoot him for her own protection. (Video shows that his window was rolled up, so reaching through a closed window? And again, no weapon was found anywhere).

According to, “a letter from her trial’s jury foreman said that the jury “could never get comfortable with the concept of Betty Shelby being blameless,” as it believed that she could have done more before the shooting to help prevent it, such as using a Taser before Crutcher got to his car.

But the jury decided that the shooting itself was justifiable, according to what the members of the jury were told was Shelby’s training. For Shelby, she’ll take that same training back to work.”

In summary, Betty Shelby got away with murder. The system protected Shelby, like it always does with police officers, especially white ones that kill unarmed black people. Shelby should have used a tazer, but her first instinct was to kill the big scary black man that had to be up to no good.

At this point, black people need to realize that any encounter with law enforcement in the United States (which we like to always mention has been infiltrated by white supremacists groups) is potentially a life for death situation. Terence Crutcher had car engine troubles, which apparently equates to a death sentence if you are black in America.
